Best known as a tourist fishing village with popular coral snorkelling, jungle walks and tropical beaches, Perhentian is also home to one of South-East Asia’s first large scale renewable energy power systems. The prestigious contract for South East Asia’s first hybrid power plant was handed to privately owned Australian company Optimal Power Solutions by federal utility Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
Optimal Power Solutions are highly specialised in developing and applying new technologies for renewable energy systems, particularly in remote areas. OPS provided the integrated power control system and project implementation for Perhentian, including the co-ordination and optimization of photovoltaic arrays, wind turbines, battery banks and diesel generators onsite. They also designed software to remote control the system online from anywhere in the world.
Optimal Power Solutions worked closely with local contractor Wazlina during project construction and environmental impact on the natural jungle was minimized during project development as much as possible.
